OUR JOURNEY TO CIRCULARITY

CIRCULARITY ROADMAP

Today, the transition from a linear, throwaway society to a circular economy that no longer wastes resources is essential. For this reason, we have further developed our sustainability strategy to create the FREITAG Circularity Roadmap and are now aligning our actions accordingly. Based on our purpose, corporate values, and a materiality assessment, this should help us set the right priorities and identify the appropriate levers to achieve the greatest possible positive impact on our journey toward a circular economy.

The roadmap shapes our everyday lives. We draw on holistic product design and well-thought-out repair, exchange, and take-back services in our declared aim to extend the life of our bags and accessories or, in a best-case scenario, even close material cycles. However, we also want to continue developing in our other key areas. We are striving to become a circular organization and to act as pioneers in actively shaping and promoting the circular economy.

IMPACT REPORT

The annual FREITAG Impact Report details our progress and the greatest challenges we have faced in the course of the year. We show how we align our overarching strategic goals, projects, and day-to-day work with our purpose of «Intelligent design for a circular future.» The content of the FREITAG Impact Report is compiled with regard to selected GRI Standards and divided into five separate topics or areas: Circular Products, Circular Services, Circular Operations, Circular F-Crew, and Circular Community.

The 2023 Impact Report is the most recent in the series. Over 74 pages, it provides in-depth information on developments in 2023, progress on long-term issues, and newly launched measures and projects. It is extremely detailed but never loses sight of our overarching ambitions.

CIRCULARITY STRATEGY

For readers who are less interested in specific figures and highlights and more interested in the big picture, we have compiled the essence of our circular ambitions here. The five strategic directions show how we plan to master the path to a circular economy and what we focus on in the process. They are divided into the same subject areas as our Impact Report – Circular F-Crew, Circular Products, Circular Operations, Circular Services, and Circular Community – but show the currently valid version that follows our adapted strategy.

CIRCULAR PRODUCTS

WE CREATE INDIVIDUAL PRODUCTS AND ASSOCIATED SERVICES TO KEEP RESOURCES IN CYCLES.

The cycle-oriented development and design of individual products turn the goal of a circular portfolio into a reality. By selecting suitable materials and developing associated services, we extend product life cycles and ensure that reusable resources remain in material cycles.

CIRCULAR OPERATIONS

WE REDUCE OUR FOOTPRINT AND ENSURE A FAIR SUPPLY CHAIN.

FREITAG aims to achieve a balance between ecological and social responsibility and economic success along its supply chain. We endeavor to ensure that our value-added chain remains fair and oblige our suppliers and subcontractors to comply with our Code of Conduct. CIRCULAR COMMUNITY

AS PIONEERS OF A CIRCULAR CULTURE, WE CONNECT AND INSPIRE.

FREITAG inspires and is inspired. To this end, we maintain a transparent, values-based dialogue with our stakeholders. We would like them to become part of our cycles and for us to become part of theirs. We cannot achieve a circular economy alone.

CIRCULAR MATURITY

The maturity level approach adopted by the Circular Globe Label helps us establish where we stand regarding our circular ambitions. The assessment model used by the Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems (SQS) and Quality Austria evaluates the activities of companies that have embarked on the road to a circular economy.

FREITAG is the first company in Switzerland to have earned the Circular Globe Label.

  • In a first assessment in 2021, FREITAG scored 505 of 1,000 possible points and achieved the «Fundamental» classification, the first of three levels.
  • In 2022, with a score of 600 points, we had already improved to the «Advanced» level.
  • The next comprehensive assessment will take place in 2025.
  • By 2030, our aim as a circular organization is to score over 800 points and qualify for the «Excellence» level.
