THE WIDE SIDE OF LIFE
A special edition in the broadest sense: F260 MIAMI WIDE is the extra-wide shopper with an expanded FREITAG logo.
BAG AND LABEL GO WIDE
The F260 MIAMI WIDE places the FREITAG shopper's simple design in a new context. Or, more precisely, in the new, eponymous landscape format. The shopper's extra-wide profile is an unexpected contrast to conventional shapes. And it's not just the bag's profile that's gone wide — the FREITAG label has followed suit.
DISTORTED WORLD
The animations were created by Basel-based media artist Dirk Koy, whose work explores the intersection of real and virtual environments. They’re based on pictures by Oliver Nanzig and Simon Habegger and visually pick up on the characteristically distorted silhouette of F260 MIAMI WIDE.
FINALLY, THE BAG FOR EXTRA-WIDE STUFF
Whether it's three dozen neon tubes, 17 telescopes or sets of flippers for an extended family, F260 MIAMI WIDE is a long-awaited shopper for unusually long items. For us, the fact there's been no solution like it before is as broad as it's long. Because there's no doubt the WIDE edition of the classic FREITAG shopper is a loud, self-confident counterpart to bag monotony. Absurdly spacious, versatile and mildly irritating, it's the perfect choice for style-defining individualists.
MINIMALIST AND EXPRESSIVE: THE FREITAG SHOPPER
One main compartment, two handles, that's it. Reduced to essentials, FREITAG shoppers feature a clear-cut design language that irresistibly draws the eye to the tarp's unusual colors, designs and patina.
F52 MIAMI VICE was created back in 1996 as the tarp version of a well-known Swiss retail chain’s classic paper shopping bag. A more compact alternative came later in the shape of its little brother, an almost square shopper by the name of F250 SONNY. The F260 MIAMI WIDE now completes the striking trio, meaning there's a FREITAG profile suitable for any occasion.
FROM TRUCK TO BAG
Like its shopper siblings, the F260 MIAMI WIDE is made from discarded truck tarps sourced from European transit routes. The route from road to one-of-a-kind bag can be divided into five stages.
Before they're processed, we test the tarps for their constituents. Once we've decided which tarps are suitable, we remove all the straps, buckles and eyelets, thoroughly clean them in our extra-large washing machines, and transfer them to the drying room.
Once they’re completely dry, we get on with the cutting. Partly by hand and partly using machines, we cut the tarps into individual sections that ensure we get as many bags as possible from a single tarp.
At the next stage, our production partners sew the parts together to create finished F260 MIAMI WIDE one-offs. We then check them for quality and photograph them at the factory. After that, the time has come for them to make star appearances on freitag.ch or in a store.
