PRESSTEXT

FREITAG enthusiasts and newcomers alike can now enjoy the innovative and uniquely recycled FREITAG products in Australia, too. FREITAG’s first outlet Down Under is in Melbourne. And it offers over 1,600 individual FREITAG products, all intriguingly stacked within its 65 square meters on Brunswick Street in the city’s buzzing Fitzroy district.

Back in 1993, graphic designers Markus and Daniel Freitag were looking for a functional, water-repellent and robust bag to hold their creative work. Inspired by the multicolored heavy traffic that rumbled through the Zurich transit intersection in front of their flat, they developed a messenger bag from used truck tarpaulins, discarded bicycle inner tubes and car seat belts. This is how the first FREITAG bags took shape in the living room of their shared apartment – each one recycled, each one unique. With their innovation, the brothers inadvertently triggered a new wave in the world of bag making. And its repercussions have since made themselves felt in Zurich, throughout Europe and now all the way to Australia, making FREITAG the unofficial outfitter of all urban bike-riding individualists.

As in all FREITAG outlets from Zurich to Tokyo, the products in the new Melbourne store are sold ‘out of the box’. All in the FREITAG self-designed modular shelving system. Stacked up almost to the ceiling. So feel free to use one of the two ladders, scale the latest FREITAG mountain and find your favorite piece.
