BAG CULTURE MEETS CULTURE CENTER: FREITAG OPENS POP-UP STORE AT LUCERNE'S BOURBAKI

Zurich, June 2025 – Lucerne's got a one-of-a-kind vibe of its own. And now, as if the Chapel Bridge, Mount Pilatus and Lake Lucerne weren't enough, it will soon boast a good 1500 road-tested, popular one-off bags. On June 13, Zurich-based bag makers FREITAG are opening a pop-up store at the Bourbaki culture center.

Lucerne isn’t just a postcard-perfect town—it has a magnetic attraction for the whole of Central Switzerland. Arguably the world's smallest, genuinely international city, it's been on FREITAG's list of dream locations for some time. And now it's finally happening. Known for its bike-friendly bags made from discarded and circular materials, the Zurich-based bag manufacturers have found the perfect location for the first FREITAG store in the region at the Bourbaki.

The Bourbaki, with the city library, movie theaters, bar, art gallery and Panorama Museum all in the same building, plays a central role in the city's life. Since early June, the Bourbaki Panorama Foundation has also been running its own pop-up with a bookstore, co-working café and events program. A local cultural hotspot at the heart of the city, it's the ideal location for an unusual temporary FREITAG store.

And with its creative interiors, this is quite definitely not your average shop. Reusable materials meet repurposed construction site utensils: Recovered plasterboard walls, construction site lights and furniture improvised out of steel frames and old tension belts create a cool under-construction feel. The highlight? A retired construction-experienced plan stand that has been turned into a checkout counter.

Across about 100 square meters, bag lovers are spoiled for choice: The full FREITAG range of bags and accessories will be available, with around 1500 upcycled one-offs. And that FREITAG products live as long as possible, they can also be dropped off here for repair. The new FREITAG pop-up is open Monday to Saturday and will be around for at least 13 months.
