FREITAG & PUBLIC POSSESSION: NICE MESSENGER BAGS!

FREITAG and Munich-based music label Public Possession transform giant graphic banners made from truck tarpaulins into a limited edition of two messenger classics.

FROM THE PARTY TO THE STREETS

For once, FREITAG isn't giving used truck tarpaulins a new lease on life as messenger bags. Instead, it's the positive messages and graphics of Public Possession that get a second outing. The limited edition NICE MESSENGER BAGS are one-offs made from 13 used P.P. event banners. After appearing in installations at various festivals and events, the banners found their way to FREITAG almost a year later. Now they've been given a second life as limited-edition one-offs with special branding — and hopefully plenty more parties ahead.

The F40-PP JAMIE hip bag and classic F14-PP DEXTER messenger bag are available exclusively at freitag.ch, publicpossession.comopens in a new tab or window and the P.P. store in Munich.

ONE-OFFS WITH AN EYE FOR DETAIL

The FREITAG & Public Possession limited edition features an unmistakable combination of snow white and vivid dark blue. The colors provide the perfect contrast to the striking red P.P. logo, sitting alongside the FREITAG label. There's also a specially woven collab label on the shoulder strap. The individual prints and carefully considered cutting at the FREITAG factory in Zurich make every bag one of a kind.

SOMETHING TO READ

Besides music, events and graphic design, Public Possession also produces printed matter — including posters, books, magazines and more — as well as vinyl records and T-shirts. For the bags, the Munich-based creative studio has designed a little zine telling the story behind the collaboration in words and pictures.

IT DOESN'T ALWAYS HAVE TO BE TRUCKS.

For the limited-edition NICE MESSENGER BAGS, FREITAG teamed up with Public Possession to create one-offs from 13 used event banners. The distinctive graphics and messages in P.P.'s signature style were screen-printed on 4 x 5-meter sheets of truck tarpaulin. Rather than having spent time on the road, the material came mainly from offcuts and rejects supplied by a tarpaulin manufacturer. The banners formed part of a large-scale installation by the music label, first exhibited at a festival at Haus der Kunst München.

The banners subsequently went on tour, appearing at events including the Forward Festival in Berlin and a joint party at our Zurich flagship store. After that, they were taken apart, washed and cut to size at the FREITAG factory before being sewn into one-of-a-kind messenger bags by a long-standing production partner in Europe.
