Zurich, May 2025 – After numerous requests from the FREITAG community, the Mono[PA6] Musette—which was originally sold only in combination with the Mono[PA6] Backpack—is now available solo. The lightweight, versatile crossbody bag can be easily recycled in its entirety at the end of its life because it is made from a single material.

In spring 2024, FREITAG presented its first circular bag: the Mono[PA6] Backpack. It's made from a single material and can therefore be easily recycled as a whole at the end of its life. The backpack is a multifunctional two-in-one talent because the detachable outer pocket, the musette, can be worn separately as a small crossbody bag. Since then, FREITAG Stores from Amsterdam to Milan and Tokyo have frequently received similar requests: ‘Do you sell the little bag separately?’ Asked, done - by popular demand, the Mono[PA6] Musette is now available as a stand-alone bag.

VERSATILE, WATER-REPELLENT AND FEATHERLIGHT

The FREITAG Mono[PA6] Musette combines minimalist design and lightness with an array of options for carrying and using it. Thanks to its flyweight of just 125 grams, the handy bag is perfect for long days, whether you're carrying it as a shoulder bag or around your neck. Or whether you're using it just for your valuables or taking advantage of its astonishing capacity. The adjustable-length drawstring and the fold-out bottom of the bag, which expands to accommodate the volume of the contents, give the musette additional flexibility. The minimalist design has been retained but, like all FREITAG products, the water-repellent musette now bears the unmistakable logo of the Zurich-based bag manufacturer.

RECYCLING MADE EASY THANKS TO A MONO-MATERIAL

To make the recycling process as simple and resource-saving as possible, FREITAG has opted for the mono-materiality principle for its Mono[PA6] bags. All 14 components of the musette, from the outer fabric and carrying strap to the zipper, are made of polyamide 6, better known as nylon. The central innovation is a three-layer, water-repellent fabric that FREITAG has jointly developed with a Taiwanese partner in the textile industry. The novel material is designed in such a way as to eliminate the need for additional layers made of other materials. At the end of its life cycle, and thanks to its mono-materiality, the musette can be shredded and melted as a whole and turned into a PA6 granulate that is then used to make other new items. This way, the material remains in the cycle.

A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

Like any FREITAG product, the Mono[PA6] Musette is designed to lead as long a life as possible. To encourage this, the Zurich-based bag manufacturers offer a customized repair service for the mono-material bags. If and when the musette can no longer be repaired, it can be returned to FREITAG through a take-back service. The recycling process for the Mono[PA6] bags has been successfully tested with a research and recycling partner. However, the circularity principle can only work if customers use their products for a long time, take good care of them, and have them repaired when necessary. And, most importantly, return them to FREITAG when the time comes.
