We've been offering various repair services to lengthen the lives of FREITAG originals for almost as long as they've existed. A repair not only gets your bag up and working again — it's also easier on your wallet and the planet.
FREE REPAIR
On Saturday, November 29, FREITAG is opening a brand-new repair station right in the heart of Zurich. The small kiosk next to the Flagship Store offers a handy express service and brand-new ways to fix damaged one-offs. You'll also find free spare parts and FREITAG Yourself, our own bag customization service.
To celebrate the opening, FREITAG is giving the first five customers at every repair station a free repair on Saturday, November 29. First come, first sew.
SUBMITTING REPAIRS
There are three ways to get your bag back in shape.
1. BRING IT TO A STORE
The best and most affordable option: just drop by any FREITAG Store with your bag. We'll immediately set you up with free spare parts. If your bag needs a repair, we’ll tell you what we can do, how long it'll take, and what it'll cost. And you can even choose a stand-in bag on the spot while yours is being fixed.
2. ORDER SPARE PARTS
Our online spare parts depot has all kinds of buckles, hooks, zipper sliders and more. You'll also find easy how-to guides showing you how to swap out broken bits yourself (or have your local cobbler do it). And best of all: all spare parts are free.
3. REMOTE CHECK & SHIPPING
If there's no FREITAG Store near you and spare parts won't solve it, you'll need to use our repair form. Send it along with a few photos of your damaged bag. A few days later, we'll tell you what your bag needs, what a repair would cost, and which FREITAG repair station you can ship it to.
REPAIR PRINCIPLES
In order to avoid losing sight of the bigger picture (aka the circular economy) in this jungle of torn Velcro fasteners and zippers, broken buckles and smaller or larger holes in tarps, we’ve created the FREITAG Repair Principles.
WE REPAIR THINGS AS LOCALLY AS POSSIBLE
The shorter the distance, the better. It means faster repairs and keeps our carbon footprint as small as possible. That’s why we’re constantly expanding our network of regional repair shops.
WE REPAIR THINGS WHEN THEY’RE DAMAGED
We patch things up to make them functional again, not to make them look new. Signs of use and aging are what we call patina and are an expression of character. Proper care also helps to extend the life of your FREITAG bag.
WE REPAIR THINGS WHEN IT’S POSSIBLE
We always try to make the impossible possible. But sometimes that hole in the tarp is just too big, or the tear in the worst possible spot. We shouldn’t forget that we work with used truck tarps. They come from a wide range of manufacturers and they often behave quite differently.
WE REPAIR THINGS WHEN IT MAKES SENSE
Repairing things is always a good idea. But sometimes it makes more sense to have the open seam on your keyholder sewn up by the shoemaker around the corner, rather than to send a little item like that overseas and back.
COSTS AND TIMING
How long a repair takes depends on where you live, what needs fixing, and how busy the repair station is:
- Opt for an express repair at the new repair station next to the FREITAG Flagship Store and you can pick up your bag the same day.
- A more complex repair at a busy repair station with a longer shipping route can take up to eight weeks.
We can only confirm the cost when we've seen your bag. It all depends on the work involved:
- Minor jobs, such as replacing a single buckle, cost about the same as an F232 MO.
- But major repairs, such as reconstructing a big hole in the tarp, will cost as much as an F257 SUTTON.
Everything in between costs .... something in between. We're happy to tell you at the F-Store or online by email (after you return the Repair form), what it looks like in your specific case.
FREITAG REPAIR STATIONS
If you send in your bag or drop it off at a FREITAG Store, it will end up at the closest FREITAG Repair Station. Here, it will get in the reliable hands of specialists that know all the skills and tricks that are needed by a Bag Doctor. Not every FREITAG Store has its own Repair Station, but (almost) every Repair Station is located in an FREITAG Store.
