We stand for thinking and acting in cycles, which means Black Friday and all the aggressive discounting it entails aren't compatible with our philosophy. That's why we're closing our checkouts and focusing on alternatives.

There are countless good reasons for not being part of the Black Friday madness. With its call to OTT consumption, it's a day that helps very few but harms many more, be it socially, ecologically, or economically. Once again, FREITAG is saying a firm «no» to mass consumption, a big «yes» to a sustainable economy, and focusing on alternatives to conventional consumption.

DON'T SHOP, JUST S.W.A.P.

We're critical of excessive consumption and think it's a pity to stop using products that are virtually perfect. It's one of the reasons we've been offering FREITAG bag owners the digital S.W.A.P. (Shopping Without Any Payment) exchange platform since 2019: a place where bags that are no longer in use can find new owners and embark on many more years of worthwhile life. On Black Friday, we're bringing S.W.A.P. to the real world and inviting you to the Big Bag Swap.

In real terms, it means we'll be going against the grain and closing all our checkouts, offline and online, on November 29, 2024. Numerous FREITAG Stores in Europe and Asia will be opening their doors from 5 p.m. for anyone who wants to find a «new» bag for free. All they have to do is bring along a used FREITAG one-off to swap for another.

S.W.A.P. IS B.A.C.K.

You'd like to offer a used bag for exchange, but don't have a FREITAG Store near you? No problem. After a long overhaul, our digital S.W.A.P. exchange platform is back! In a revised form, with a new look. Find your one-of-a-kind used bag now in the FREITAG Community – don't shop, just S.W.A.P.

You missed the Black Friday swap events? No problem! Simply register the FREITAG one-off you no longer use on our online S.W.A.P. exchange platform and find a partner with a bag that suits you. Happy swapping!
